PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are widespread environmental contaminants linked to a range of health concerns. While previous research has shown that PFAS can affect the liver, understanding exactly how different compounds cause harm has remained difficult.
Through the Sanofi iDEA-TECH Awards, a group of researchers used Ignota Labs' SAFEPATH to combine multiple sources of biological and chemical data to better understand how different PFAS compounds cause toxicity.
SAFEPATH discovered novel compound-specific regulatory patterns that will help create testable hypotheses for experimental validation and a blueprint for safer drug development.
The findings in this collaborative paper highlight how integrating multiple data sources can reveal insights that traditional research methods may overlook.
