Predicting human biology in the era of foundational models

Dr Layla Hosseini-Gerami was a panelist at BioCentury Grand Rounds Europe.

With the parallel rise of data generation and AI, biomedical scientists are aiming to build foundation models – those trained on data sets so massive they can take on nearly any task in their domain.

The lower hanging fruit is in foundation models for structure prediction and design, but what will it take to get to generalizable models of human biology, at the cell, tissue or patient level?

The panel discussed near-term milestones on the horizon, and how academic and industry researchers can fill the gaps toward these ambitious goals.

Moderator: Anika Gupta Vatsa, PhD
Panelists: Layla Hosseini-Gerami, Slavé Petrovski, Simon Turner, and Jean-Philippe Vert
